Assalam Alaykum All

Q1. The root word رحم and its derivatives have come 563 results in 422 ayats.

Q2. Correct

Q3. In general answer is correct for the pair Al-Aziz, Al-Rahim. In the context of Surah Al-Shura, it comes after every time Allah (ﷻ) destroyed a nation.

a) Ayat 10-67 is mention of Pharaoh and Musa (عليه السلام) and miracles. Destruction of was completed in Ayah 67. Then ayah 68 has this pair.
b) Ayah 69-103 Ibrahim (عليه السلام) and miracles. Then Ayah 104 has the pair.
c) Ayah 105-121 Prophet Noah (عليه السلام) and miracles. Destruction of people of Noah was completed in Ayah 121. Then Ayah 122 has the pair.
d) Ayah 123-139 Prophet Hud (عليه السلام) and miracles. Destruction of people of Hud (Aad) was completed in Ayah 139.Then Ayah 140 has the pair.
e) Ayah 141-158 Prophet Saleh (عليه السلام) and miracles. Destruction of people of Saleh (Samood) was completed in Ayah 158.Then Ayah 159 has the pair.
e) Ayah 160-174 Prophet Loot (عليه السلام) and miracles. Destruction of people of Lood was completed in Ayah 174.Then Ayah 175 has the pair.
f) Ayah 176-190 Prophet Shuaib (عليه السلام) and miracles. Destruction of people of Shuaib was completed in 190.Then Ayah 191 has the pair.

That means. in the context of Sura Al-Shuara, this pair has something to do with miracles and destruction of nations. Each of those nations were given miracles, they didn't benefit, Itmam-e-Hujjat (اتمام حجت) was completed upon them and they were destroyed.

Ayaats 1-8 tells us that disbelievers of Quresh also wanted miracles. In Ayah 4 Allah replied:

If We will, We could send down to them from the heaven a sign, to which they would bend their necks in humility.

But they will not accept as the nations before (Ayah 5, 6). Had they willingness, then Quran is a clear miracle (Ayah 2), Earth and its produces are a miracles (Ayah 7,8 ).

Ayah 9. Your Lord has the the power and authority to bring similar miracles like nations before. It is His mercy that he is not bringing those physical miracles, otherwise disbelievers of Quresh would have been destroyed like nations before. However, Allah has decided not to destroy nations of Muhammad (ﷺ) with His punishment. The disbelievers were dominated by Holy Prophet (ﷺ) after Itmam-e-Hujjat (اتمام حجت). Same is true for our times. Allah (ﷻ) will not destroy whole Ummat. But if there are true believers, He will make them dominate through Quran on disbelievers. This is HIS Promise.

Q4. List ayaats from Quran which show رحم as a system (نظام) likeحمد.

All the ayaats mentioned in question 3 above show رحم as a system (نظام) likeحمد. Just like a doctor working in a hospital (system) is considered merciful (not Zalim) who surgically removes tumor of a patient or infected leg to protect other body parts, same way Allah removes a nation from earth to ensure that His system of mercy (رحم) continues for dwellers of earth. Also mentioned in below ayats clearly.

A'raaf
So We saved him and those who were with him by a Mercy from Us, and We cut the roots of those who belied Our Ayat (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, etc.), and they were not believers.
ٍ
Hud ‎﴿
And when Our Commandment came, We saved Hud and those who believed with him by a Mercy from Us, and We saved them from a severe torment.

‎Hud ﴿
So when Our Commandment came, We saved Salih (Saleh) and those who believed with him by a Mercy from Us, and from the disgrace of that Day. Verily, your Lord, He is the All-Strong, the All-Mighty.

Hud ﴿
And when Our Commandment came, We saved Shu'aib and those who believed with him by a Mercy from Us. And As-Saihah (torment - awful cry, etc.) seized the wrong-doers, and they lay (dead) prostrate in their homes.

Similarly, below ayah directly shows mercy (رحم) as a system due to which Allah has mandated upon Himself to bring day of Judgment. His system must continue without interruption. When there is no one left on earth to get His mercy, he'll replace this earth with another (as in Quran) and bring forth Heaven and Hell. Believers will get His mercy and non-believers get punishment.

He has prescribed Mercy for Himself. Indeed He will gather you together on the Day of Resurrection, about which there is no doubt.

Q5. Sura Hood, ponder on Ayaats 118, 119, what lessons we get?

Important lessons from these 2 ayaats are as follows:

a) Allah didn't force us to believe. Had HE willed, he could have made all of us as believers. وَلَا يَزَالُونَ مُخْتَلِفِينَ means HE gave us freedom of choice. So BY DESIGN, some of us will differ and not follow right path, instead they will follow Satan's path.

b) Except those who were saved by HIS mercy HIS original intent is that all of receive HIS mercy (وَلِذَٰلِكَ خَلَقَهُمْ). Those who will differ and follow Satan's path, they will get punishment and He will fill hell with them.

Most important lesson is the ORIGINALLY HE created us on guidance. HIS ORIGINAL intent was that we all get HIS Mercy. People were on right path and there was no difference. The differences came later on when some followed desires and Satan's path as mentioned in below ayah 213 of Al-Baqara

Mankind was once a single community, [but then people developed differences], so God sent prophets to them as bearers of good tidings and warning, and sent down with them the Book containing the truth, so that He might judge between their disputes. It was only those to whom it [the scripture] was given who disagreed about it after clear signs had come to them, because of rivalry between them. God by His will guided the believers to the truth about which the others had disputed. God guides whom He will to a straight path.

Q6. If we compare Basmala (بِسْمِ ٱللَّٰهِ ٱلرَّحْمَٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ) and Tauz (أَعُوْذُ بِاللّٰهِ مِنَ الشَّيْطٰانِ الرَّجِيْمِ), we can see opposites used in that. Even the pattern of nouns used is same.

الشَّيْطٰانِ is the opposite of ٱلرَّحْمَٰنِ

الرَّجِيْمِ is the opposite of ٱلرَّحِيمِ

Q7. The two systems of رحم and حمد are connected in Sura Al-Fatiha. System of Hamd represent ACTIONS of Allah (ﷻ), e.g., He gave us life. He gives us rizq. All these actions represent system of Hamd. While System of Rehm represent REASON for His actions. He gave us life, book, rizq, etc. because He is Merciful.

This completes all questions.

Assalam Alaykum

We have studied 3 words Slowly we'll complete all words of Opening Prayer (دعاء الاستفتاح ) and then we'll analyze it from Arabic Grammar before we move to next part in prayer In Sha Allah.

Next words are وتَبَارَك اسْمُكَ. We have studied different dimensions of the Ism of Allah (ﷻ). Now we will focus on تَبَارَك. The root of this word is (ب ر ك). It means to increase and to be long lasting. We are saying that "My Lord, Your name is blessed". That means with His names (which represent His Characteristics), Allah (ﷻ) increases and make things long lasting. For example, whoever prays for Rizq and uses His name Al-Razzaq, He will increase rizq and make it long lasting. Let's see its uses in Quran and Hadith so that we understand this word and connect with it our prayers.

a. Aal-Imran Ayah 96.
The first House to be built for mankind was the one at Bakkah [Makkah]. It is a blessed place; a source of guidance for the whole world.

If I offer Namaz 55 years in a mosque in Pakistan, my one Namaz in Bait-Allah is equal to that. That's why home of Allah is Mubarak and blessed. One namaz reward is increased to 1 lakh. Divide 100,000 by 5x365, we get 54.7 (almost 55).

b. Al-Dukhan Ayah 3.
Surely We sent it down on a blessed night, We have always sent warnings,

One night of worship in Layla-tul-Qadr is better than 77 years of worship because it is better than 1000 months.

Rain water is blessed because drops of water give rise to billions of grains, fruits, plants, etc.

Questions to Izhar Bhai:

1. How many times words from root of (ب ر ك) used in Quran, Count all even if repeating.

2. Ayah 14 Surah 23-Al-Muminoon. Allah calls creation of human because of His blessing. How, please explain. If possible, use mathematics as I did above?

3. Aya 61, Surah Furqan, Three celestial bodies mentioned, Burooj, Siraj, and Qamar. What is the difference as we know from science today. What blessing is referred in creation of these three bodies. You can use science here also?

4. Many ayaats in Quran call Bilad-As-Shaam (Palestine, Syria, Jordan) as blessed. What blessings referred in those?

5. There are different angles of Quran being blessed book. Please mention some those from Quran.

6. There are 2 ayaats in Quran which link His KINGDOM (مُلْكُ) with blessing (تَبَارَكَ ). Al-Zukhraf 85, and Al-Mulk 1. What is the relationship between blessing and kingdom?

Question 2: Ayah 14 Surah 23-Al-Muminoon. Allah calls creation of human because of His blessing. How, please explain. If possible, use mathematics as I did above?
Answer:
Then We made the sperm-drop into a clinging clot, and We made the clot into a lump [of flesh], and We made [from] the lump, bones, and We covered the bones with flesh; then We developed him into another creation. So blessed is Allah , the best of creators.
The various stages of the creation of man have been cited to prove that Allah is All-Blessed and there is no human language which can describe the praise of which He is worthy, as if to say: That Allah Who is able to develop an essence of clay into a perfect man, does not have any partner in His domain. Moreover, He has the power to raise him up again after his death, and is capable of working even greater wonders.
Allah says here,
Then We made the Nutfah into a clot, meaning, `then We made the Nutfah, which is the water gushing forth that comes from the loins of man, i.e., his back, and the ribs of woman, i.e., the bones of her chest, between the clavicle and the breast. Then it becomes a red clot, like an elongated clot.'
Ikrimah said, "This is blood.''
then We made the clot into a little lump of flesh, which is like a piece of flesh with no shape or features.
then We made out of that little lump of flesh bones, meaning, `We gave it shape, with a head, two arms and two legs, with its bones, nerves and veins.'
then We clothed the bones with flesh, meaning, `We gave it something to cover it and strengthen it.'
and then We brought it forth as another creation, means, `then We breathed the soul into it, and it moved and became a new creature, one that could hear, see, understand and move.
Al-`Awfi reported that Ibn Abbas said, "We change it from one stage to another until it emerges as an infant, then it grows up through the stages of being a child, adolescent, youth, mature man, old man and senile man.''
Imam Ahmad recorded in his Musnad that Abdullah -- Ibn Mas`ud -- said,
"The Messenger of Allah, the Truthful One, told us:
The creation of anyone of you is gathered for forty days in his mother's stomach as a Nutfah, then he becomes a clot for a similar period of time, then he becomes a little lump of flesh for a similar length of time. Then the angel is sent to him and he breathes the soul into it, and four things are decreed:
- his provision,
- his life-span,
- his deeds, and
- whether he will be wretched or blessed.
By the One besides Whom there is no other god, one of you may do the deeds of the people of Paradise until there is no more than a forearm's length between him and it, then the decree will overtake him and he will do the deeds of the people of Hell and thus enter Hell. And a man may do the deeds of the people of Hell until there is no more than a forearm's length between him and it, then the decree will overtake him and he will do finally the deeds of the people of Paradise and thus enter Paradise.
This was recorded by Al-Bukhari and Muslim.
So Blessed is Allah, the Best of creators, means, when Allah mentions His ability and subtlety in creating this Nutfah and taking it from stage to stage until it takes the shape of a perfectly formed human being, He says, (So Blessed is Allah, the Best of creators).
A look at some of the statistics of human body proves beyond any shadow of doubt that Allah is very very blessed:-
1. The human brain has a memory capacity which is the equivalent of more than four terabytes on a hard drive.
2. Your skull is made up of 29 different bones.
3. Nerve impulses sent from the brain move at a speed of 274 km/h.
4. A single human brain generates more electrical impulses in a day than all the telephones of the world combined.
5. The average human body contains enough sulphur to kill all the fleas on the average dog, enough carbon to make 900 pencils, enough potassium to fire a toy cannon, enough fat to make seven bars of soap and enough water to fill a 50-litre barrel.
6. The human heart pumps 182 million litres of blood during the average lifetime.
7. 50,000 cells in your body died and were replaced by new ones while you were reading this sentence.
8. The human embryo acquires fingerprints within three months of conception.
9. The average person forgets 90% of their dreams.
10. The total length of all the blood vessels in the human body is about 100,000 km.
11. By the end of a person's life, they can recall, on average, around 150 trillion pieces of information.
12. A feeling of thirst occurs when water loss is equal to 1% of your body weight. The loss of more than 5% can cause fainting, and more than 10% causes death from dehydration.
13. At least 700 enzymes are active in the human body.
14. The average four-year-old child asks 450 questions a day.
15. If allowed to grow for their whole lifetime, the length of someone's hair would be about 725 kilometres.
16. The total weight of the bacteria in the human body is 2 kg.
17. 99% of the calcium contained in the human body is in one's teeth.
18. The total strength of masticatory muscles on one side of your jaw is equal to 195 kilograms.
19. A person passes on 278 different types of bacteria to another person when they kiss them. Fortunately, 95% of them are not harmful.
20. If you collected all the iron contained in the human body, you would get just a small cog, big enough only for use in your watch.
21. There are more than 100 different viruses which cause a cold.
22. You can lose 150 calories per hour if you hit your head against the wall.
23. Human skin is completely replaced about 1,000 times during a person's lifetime.
24. The structure of the human body contains only four minerals: apatite, aragonite, calcite, and crystobalite.
25. Nerve impulses in the human body move at about 90 m/s.
26. 100,000 chemical reactions occur in the human brain every second.
27. The surface area of the human lungs is approximately equal to the area of a tennis court.
28. Leukocytes in the human body live for two to four days, and erythrocytes for three to four months.
29. The human heart is approximately equal in size to that of a person's fist. An adult’s heart weights 220-260 grams.
30. At birth, there are 14 billion cells in the human brain. This number does not increase throughout a person's lifetime. After 25 years, the number of cells falls by 100,000 every day. About 70 cells die in the minute it takes you to read a page in a book. After 40 years, the decline of the brain accelerates sharply, and after 50 years neurons (that is, nerve cells) shrink and the brain gets smaller.
31. At birth, a child's body is made up of around 300 bones. But an adult has just 206.
32. During a person's lifetime, the small intestine is about 2.5 meters. After they die, the muscles in the walls of their intestine relax, and it's length increases to 6 meters.
33. An adult person performs around 23,000 inhalations and exhalations a day.
34. There are about 40,000 bacteria in the human mouth.
35. Each of us has around 2,000 taste buds.
36. The human eye can distinguish 10 million different colours.
37. The human heart pumps blood at such pressure that it would be able to raise blood up to the fourth floor of a building.
38. A person uses 17 muscles when they smile, and 43 when they frown.
39. On average, a person says 4,800 words in 24 hours.
40. The retinas inside the eye cover about 650 square mm and contain 137 million light-sensitive cells: 130 million are for black and white vision and 7 million are for helping you see in colour.
41. The muscles which help your eyes to focus complete around 100,000 movements a day. In order to make your leg muscles do the same amount of movements, you would need to walk 80 kilometres.
42. A cough amounts to an explosive charge of air which moves at speeds up to 60 miles per hour.
43. Bones are about 5 times stronger than steel.

Question 3: Aya 61, Surah Furqan, Three celestial bodies mentioned, Burooj, Siraj, and Qamar. What is the difference as we know from science today. What blessing is referred in creation of these three bodies. You can use science here also?
Answer:
Blessed is He who has placed in the sky great stars and placed therein a [burning] lamp and luminous moon.
Al-Hijr Ayat 16-18:
"Fortified spheres" (buruj) are Signs of Allah for it is not possible to pass through one sphere of the Heaven into another, as each sphere of the space has been fortified by invisible boundaries. In this connection, it may be noted that literally the Arabic word burj means "a fortified place" but as a technical term of ancient astronomy this stood for each of the twelve Signs of the Zodiac, which marked the sun's path through the heavens. This has led some of the commentators to form the opinion that in this verse the word buruj refers to the same. But there are some others who think that it means "planets". However, if we consider this word in the context of v. 19, we are led to the conclusion that probably it stands for "spheres".
"We have adorned and decked the "fortified spheres": "We have placed a shining star or planet in each of these spheres and made them look beautiful". In other words, it means; "We have not made the boundless universe dismal, desolate and frightful, but so beautiful that one finds marvelous order and harmony in it everywhere, and sights therein are. so attractive that each one of these charms hearts and minds. This wonderful structure of the universe is a clear proof of the fact that its Creator is not only Great and All-Wise but is also a perfect Artist". The Qur'an has also stated this aspect of the Creator in XXXII: 7: “(Allah is) that God Who has created in perfect beauty everything He has created.”
That is, "These spheres are so fortified that they are beyond the reach of every Satan, for all Satans including those of jinns, have been confined to that sphere in which the Earth has been placed and they enjoy no more access to visit other spheres than the other dwellers of this sphere. This has been mentioned in order to remove a common misunderstanding. The common people believed, .and still believe, that Satan and his descendants have a free access to every place in the universe. On the contrary, the Qur'an says that Satans cannot go beyond a certain limit and they have no unlimited power of ascension.
This is the answer to the false claim of the soothsayers, diviners, hermits, conjurers and the like who pretended to receive communications from the Heaven. The Qur'an says that in fact they do not possess any means of obtaining information about unseen things. Satans, however, try to eaves-drop because they are by nature more like angels than human beings, but in reality, they succeed in obtaining very little information about it.
In Arabic the word shihab-i-mubin literally means "fiery flame". In XXXVII: 10, the same thing has been called shihab-i-thaqib ("flame that pierces through darkness"). 'This may or may not necessarily be a "meteor" for it is just possible that it may be some type of rays such as "Cosmic Rays" or even a stronger type which we have not been able to discover as yet. Anyhow if the "fiery flame" that pursues Satans may be taken to be a meteor, a countless number of these can form a fortification around our sphere of the universe. Scientific observations made with the help of the telescope have shown that billions of these meteors are rushing from space in mass of "rainfall" towards the earth's atmosphere. Such a scene was witnessed in an eastern pan of North America on November 13, 1833. This is so strong a fortification that it can prevent Satans from passing through any fortified sphere.
What The Qur'an says about Moon
1) Crescent moon as the standard to be used for reckoning of time:
"They ask you about new crescent moons, say they are to mark fixed times for mankind and Hajj." (2:189)
2) Moon is not my Lord:
"When he saw the moon rising in splendor He said: "This is my Lord." but when the moon set he said: Unless my Lord guide me I shall surely be among those who go astray." (6:77)
3) Sun and Moon to be used for reckoning of time:
"And He who made the night for rest and sun and moon for reckoning of time. This is the decree of the Exalted, the All-knowing." (6:96)
4) Sun, moon, and the stars governed by laws:
"Allah is He, who created the sun, the moon, and the stars (all) governed by laws under His commandment." (7:54)
5) Moon is the measure of month:
"The number of months in the sight of Allah is twelve (in a year) so ordained by Him the day He created the heavens and the earth; of them four are sacred; that is the straight usage.......Verily the transposing (of a prohibited month) is an addition to unbelief: the unbelievers are led to wrong thereby: for they make it lawful one year and forbidden another year in order to adjust the number of months forbidden by Allah and make such forbidden ones lawful. The evil of their course seems pleasing to them. But Allah guideth not those who reject faith." (9:36-37)
6) Sun is source of light and Moon is just light:
"It is He who made sun a lamp, and moon a light and measured stages so you know number of years and count (of time)." (10:5)
7) Joseph's Dream:
"Behold Joseph said to his father: O my father! I did see eleven stars and the sun and the moon: I saw them prostrate themselves to me!"
8) Sun and moon continue in an orbit to their destiny:
"Allah is He who raised heavens without pillars that you can see; Then He established Himself on the throne; And He subjected the sun and the moon (to his law); each one runs its course for a term appointed." (13:2)
9) Allah created Sun and moon, and He made them subject to you:
"It is Allah Who hath created the heavens and the earth and sendeth down rain from the skies......... He has made subject to you, the night and the day; the sun and the moon; and the stars in subjection by His command." (14:32-33)
10) Day and night, sun and moon, and stars made for you:
"He has made subject to you, the night and the day; the sun and the moon; and the stars in subjection by His command." (16:12)
11) Sun bright - Moon dark (no light):
"We made night and day two signs. The sign of night we made dark and sign of day we made bright. That ye may seek bounty from your lord and ye may know number of years and count (of time)." (17:12)
12) Orbits of celestial bodies:
"It is He who created the night and the day, and the sun and the moon, all (the celestial bodies) swim along, each in its orbit." (21:33)
13) All things bow down to Allah:
"See you not that to Allah bow down in worship all things in the heavens and on earth, the sun, the moon, the stars." (22:18)
14) Moon is reflected light of the sun:
"Blessed is He who made constellations in the skies, and placed therein a lamp and a moon reflecting light" (25:61)
15) Sun and moon continue in an orbit to their destiny:
"See you not Allah merges night into day and day into night; And subjected the sun and the moon (to His Law); each one runs its course for a term appointed." (31:29)
16) Sun and moon continue in an orbit to their destiny:
"He merges night into day and day into night; And subjected the sun and the moon (to His Law); each one runs its course for a term appointed." (35:13)
17) Ordained orbits of celestial bodies:
"And the moon, we have measured for her mansions (to traverse) till she returns like the old, (withered, and curved-up like a sickle) date-palm. It is not permitted for sun to catch-up the moon, nor can the night outstrip the day; each swims along in (its own) orbit." (36:39-40)
18) Sun and moon continue in an orbit to their destiny:
"He created heavens and the earth in true proportions; He makes night overlap day and day overlap night and subjected the sun and the moon (to His Law); each one runs its course for a term appointed." (39:5)
19) Do not Prostrate to the Sun and Moon:
"Among His Signs are the Night and the Day and the sun and moon. Prostrate not to the Sun and the Moon but Prostrate to Allah Who created them if it is Him ye wish to serve." (41:37)
20) Moon is split asunder:
"The hour (of Judgment) is near and the moon is split asunder." (54:1)
21) Celestial bodies tied to orbits:
"The sun and the moon follow courses exactly computed." (55:05)
22) Sun is source of light and Moon is just light:
"And made the moon a light in their midst and made the sun as a (Glorious) lamp." (71:16)
23) Swear by the Moon:
"Nay verily: by the Moon." (74:32)
24) Signs of Qiyamah (Judgment Day):
"And the moon is buried in darkness. And the sun and moon are joined together." (75:8-9)
25) Moon becomes full:
"And the moon when it becomes full." (84:18)
26) Moon follows the sun:
"By the sun and its radiant brightness; By the moon as she follows him." (91:1-2)
Commentery 25:61
Allah, may He be exalted, says (interpretation of the meaning): “Blessed be He Who has placed in the heaven big stars, and has placed therein a great lamp (sun), and a moon giving light” [al-Furqaan 25:61].
And He says (interpretation of the meaning):
“And indeed, We have put the big stars in the heaven and We beautified it for the beholders”
[al-Hijr 15:16]
“By the heaven holding the big stars”
[al-Burooj 85:1].
The words “Blessed be He” mean: May He be exalted, Whose giving is plentiful and Whose blessings are abundant.
So the Lord, may He be exalted, deserves gratitude, veneration and praise for His blessings.
See: Tafseer Ibn Katheer, 6/92; al-Jaami‘ li Ahkaam al-Qur’aan, 7/223 and 13/1; Fath al-Qadeer, 3/683
“…Who has placed in the heaven big stars, and has placed therein a great lamp (sun), and a moon giving light”
“big stars”: Ibn ‘Abbaas, Mujaahid, al-Dahhaak, al-Hasan, Qataadah and al-Saddi stated that “burooj” [translated here as “big stars”] refers to stars.
Tafseer Ibn Katheer (8/363)
Shaykh al-Sa‘di (may Allah have mercy on him) said:
Allah says, describing His perfect power and His Mercy towards His creation:
“And indeed, We have put the big stars in the heaven” i.e., stars like towers, and great signs by which man may navigate in the darkness on land and sea, “and We beautified it for the beholders”[al-Hijr 15:16], for were it not for the stars, this wondrous sight in the heavens would not exist. This is something that calls those who gaze upon it to ponder it, seek its meaning and see it as evidence of its Creator. End quote.
Tafseer al-Sa‘di, 1/430
And it was said that burooj refers to the constellations. Al-Shawkaani (may Allah have mercy on him) said:
What is meant by burooj is the groups of stars, i.e., their constellations. And it was said that it refers to big stars, but the former is more correct. They are called burooj, which refers to lofty palaces, because they are like high built dwellings. The word burj is derived from tabarruj, which refers to an open display. End quote.
Fath al-Qadeer, 4/122
The word “a lamp” refers to the sun, and “a moon giving light” means it shines.
Ibn Katheer (may Allah have mercy on him) said:
“and has placed therein a great lamp” refers to the shining sun.
“and a moon giving light” means it shines with the light of another.
To sum up, what the verse means is: Exalted and venerated be Allah, Whose giving is plentiful, for His blessings upon His creation are evident. He is the One Who, by His grace, has adorned the lowest heaven with these great stars and planets, and the sun and the moon which give light by night and day. He has created that as part of His perfect blessings to His creation; His blessings are vast and His generosity and kindness are immense. So let them ponder the great signs that are above them, and the blessings that they enjoy, so that they might believe in their Lord and give thanks to Him.
The Sun and Light in the Quran
The Quran has numerous miracles and one of the most amazing ones is the mention of the Sun, the Moon and the Lights all made by Allah. Allah has given us numerous blessings and night and day is one of the blessings that stand out the most. All of it is mentioned in the Quran in Allah’s words so that we can pay heed and take note and learn about the circle of this world so that we may follow the right path.
Allah says in the Quran, “It is He who made the sun a shining light and the moon a derived light and determined for it phases - that you may know the number of years and account [of time]. Allah has not created this except in truth. He details the signs for a people who know.” (10:5)
In the above verse of the Quran Allah is telling us beautifully how the things of the universe that He alone has created has helped us and will help us in our future. Allah says that the sun and the moon have the ability to tell us about the day and night and about the start of a day and the end of a day. Muslims can determine the length of days through the sun and in turn determine the length of the months and years. Allah has given us this convenience of trying to understand how the sun and moon works by telling us this specifically in the Quran, making the book the complete source of guidance.
Allah says in the Quran about the signs that night and day and light and darkness have on us”Behold! In the creation of the heavens and the earth, and the alternation of night and day, - there are indeed Signs for men of understanding. (3:190).
Allah has specifically told us in the Quran that the day in which the sun comes out we are to carry our all our work. In the day we can see and hence are able to do all our chores. In the same way Allah has asked us to rest and sleep at night. These are vivid signs for the believer. The manners in which the constellations and galaxies and sun and moon operate in phases are signs for us, sometimes giving us day and sometimes giving us night. We are to study these phases and find out the number of months, years and make calendars but it also enables us to make plans about our lives and use the Quran as guidance to do so. We must read the word of Allah in the Quran and try to understand the meaning it has for us, specifically the workings of the galaxies and planets and the milky-way. May Allah give us the power and knowledge for us to understand its workings.

Question 4: Many ayaats in Quran call Bilad-As-Shaam (Palestine, Syria, Jordan) as blessed. What blessings referred in those?
Answer: Syria, Lebanon, Palestine, and Jordan all make up what is known as Bilad Ash-Shaam (بلاد الشام). There are many verses in the Quran which mention this great land. This is the land which Ibraheem and Loot (لوط) (peace be upon them both) made hijra to:
وَنَجَّيْنَاهُ وَلُوطًا إِلَى الْأَرْضِ الَّتِي بَارَكْنَا فِيهَا لِلْعَالَمِينَ
And We delivered him and Lot to the land which We had blessed for the worlds
(Surat Al-‘Anbyā’) Ayah 71
Allah said in regards to Palestine (Which is a part of Shaam) it is the holy/pure land:
يَا قَوْمِ ادْخُلُوا الْأَرْضَ الْمُقَدَّسَةَ الَّتِي كَتَبَ اللَّهُ لَكُمْ وَلَا تَرْتَدُّوا عَلَىٰ أَدْبَارِكُمْ فَتَنقَلِبُوا خَاسِرِينَ
O my people, enter the Holy Land which Allah has assigned to you and do not turn back [from fighting in Allah ‘s cause] and [thus] become losers.”
(Surat Al Ma’idah Verse 21)
There are also many authentic ahadeeth about this land.
This land, is Allah’s chosen land, The Prophet ﷺ said:
عَلَيْكَ بِالشَّامِ فَإِنَّهَا خِيَرَةُ اللَّهِ مِنْ أَرْضِهِ يَجْتَبِي إِلَيْهَا خِيَرَتَهُ مِنْ عِبَادِهِ
Go to Syria, for it is Allah’s chosen land, to which his best servants will be gathered
(Abi Dawood)
This is the land which the Angels spread their wings over, The Prophet ﷺ said:
طُوبَى لِلشَّامِ ‏ ‏.‏ فَقُلْنَا لأَىٍّ ذَلِكَ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ قَالَ‏ لأَنَّ مَلاَئِكَةَ الرَّحْمَنِ بَاسِطَةٌ أَجْنِحَتَهَا عَلَيْهَا
‘Tuba is for Ash-Sham.’ So we said: ‘Why is that O Messenger of Allah?’ He said: ‘Because the angels of Ar-Rahman spread their wings over it
(Tirmithi)
This land is a place of Iman (faith) when there will be trials and tribulations at the end of times. It’s a place where empires are made and unmade from ancient times. Only the toughest in imaan and resolve survive in Shaam.
This land is also the place of knowledge and Islam. Over 100 000 Sahabah visited Shaam and the majority of Prophets are buried within its bowels.
This is also the land that the Prophet ﷺ asked Allah to bless:
اللَّهُمَّ بَارِكْ لَنَا فِي شَأْمِنَا، اللَّهُمَّ بَارِكْ لَنَا فِي يَمَنِنَا
O Allah! Bestow Your blessings on our Sham! O Allah! Bestow Your blessings on our Yemen
Bukhari)
This land is the scale of this ummah, if the people of this land become corrupt, then there is no good for us. The Prophet ﷺ said:
When the inhabitants of Ash-Sham become corrupt, then there is no good in it for you. There will never cease to be a group in my Ummah who will be helped(by Allah), they will not be harmed by those who forsake them until the Hour is established
(Tirmithi)

“And to Solomon [We subjected] the wind, blowing forcefully, proceeding by his command toward the land which We had blessed. And We are ever, of all things, Knowing.” — Al-Anbiya 21:81
